Scrabster,
Caithness
Scrabster is a small settlement,
2.5km from Thurso in Caithness, with a ferry link to Stromness in Orkney
from Scrabster Harbour. Scrabster is an important fishing port,
and is one of the leading whitefish ports in Britain.
Scrabster Harbour is undergoing a
£20 million redevelopment at present, the work will include upgrading
the facilities for existing users & preparing it for the emerging marine
energy sector in the Pentland Firth.
This is seen as an important step
to prepare Caithness to diversify and reduce it's dependence on the
nuclear industry as Dounreay is decommissioned.
